Our Port Townsend Gray Whale Tour had a day for the ages on March 21, 2025! We started out towards Whidbey Island and caught a glimpse of our first minke whale of the season. We then spent time with gray whale CRC-2362 Thidwick and an unidentified colleague before heading north to see the T124 family of Bigg’s orcas near Turn Island.
And then we went home. Almost.
We had word of possible orca sightings just south of Port Townsend. We arrived on scene to find the T46 family of Bigg’s orcas with at least one other family having their way with a sea lion. Breaching, tail-slapping, pec-slapping, porpoising – general mayhem! We’ve started this video with that hunt; nothing too gnarly in this video, but the sea lion makes its appearance around 1:14 in the video. Grays are at 2:25; T124s at 2:57; and to balance the karma scales, some much happier Steller sea lions at Whale Rocks at 3:18.
